Catania has a unique architecture influenced by its Roman and Greek past with plenty of Roman baths and theatres in addition to the palaces and baroque churches that adorn the city. Guests shouldn’t miss the beautiful Cathedral of Catania containing relics of St Agatha before visiting the baroque church of St Nicholas and its adjacent Benedictine Monastery. For something a little more lively perhaps guests can sample the bustling market at Piazza Carlo Alberto, or stroll down Via Etnea browsing through the shops and soaking up the atmosphere.
Catania is also famous for its culinary heritage with a myriad of dishes and traditional cuisine to whet the appetite and tantalise the senses. Whether that be from the gorgeous traditional pastries such as Cannoli, or special ice cream or refreshing mandarin and lemon drinks, Catania offers a whole new world of flavours.
Catania looks out onto the gorgeous Ionian Sea which laps alternating sand and shingle beaches up and down the coastline here. One of the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean – Plaia Beach – begins at the harbour here close to the B&B and is a long sandy beach that is popular with all who visit it. With our car hire service however, guests have the chance to explore the coastline towns and alcoves to truly experience the beauty of the Sicilian coastline.
Above Sea Level
Of course, a visit to Sicily is not complete without a visit to the mountain of mountains – Mount Etna – a smouldering active volcano that has helped shape and form the culture and landscape of the island for millennia. Surrounded by a National Park, guests can partake in all manner of outdoor activities including hiking, cycling and even horse riding.
